the sounds of nature.

The age group for this poem is for older youth,
so 16-19. It's purpose is to remind them
that even in the business of their lives, they can
still listen to the sounds that nature makes.

The whistle of the wind,
the smell of burning wood.
The cry of a squirrels mother,
wondering what to do.
The crisp crush of leaves,
the crackle of the flames.

The heat of the night, the song
of the moon.
A love song.
A ballad.
A solo.
An ensemble.
The music makes the mood.

The trickle of the dew, falling off
the trees.
The taste of the morning, whatever
it may be.
The chirping of the birds,
The whispers of the wind.

Amen.

  1. All right jill! nice use of imagery. Reminds me (fondly) of camping in Algonquin Park.

  2. I like all the onomatopoeia you used in this poem. It really gives me a clear sense of being outdoors. Good job!
