he's just too young.

This poem is for teens 16-21. The purpose
is to show the traumatic effects of drinking and driving.

A mothers cry, as she looked down, at the
body that her son had left behind.
The panic in the streets, as the sirens rush,
the people gather to watch the scene.
Back at the party, where the music is loud,
they are oblivious to the things that
went down. The drinks are being poured, like
nothing before, the music is blasting,
and the night it young,

But one is just too young.

He leaves as he is tipsy and dizzy, and he
climbs into his car. Someone comes, just
to catch a ride, and then the get ready
to go.

Another drink, or maybe a sip of beer,
to pass into the wrong lane,
a car comes by, and their car smashes
through.

As the sirens come closer, a white light
flashes, you wsih that you could live.
A back body bag is closed over, and
all you can hear is tears...

And the cry of his mother,
"Oh, he's just too young."

  1. Yes. This one is awesome. Very evocative and reaches into the heart of the message.
